A bit belated, but some peeks into our trip to New York {to shoot this lovely wedding}!

We got the perfect non-touristy tour of the most awesome places, thanks to friends who have spent the past few years in the city. Wandering through Central Park, hunting down delicious gyros carts, visiting the coolest top secret speakeasy, experiences breathtaking city views from a stunning rooftop bar & friend’s apartment building, and food food FOOD… more of our adventures below!

One of the things on the tippy top of my must-see list was Highline Park. It’s a park built on a former elevated railway, covered with greenery & providing a cool spot to sit and relax. I LOVE the concept & so wish we had one here, I’d go hang out there all the time with the perfect cup of tea…

Throughout our trip we got quite a few spectacular views of the city, but one of the best was probably from this apartment rooftop. There was such a relaxing setup and the views were crazy awesome – I already have a random affinity for rooftops, but would especially love to have one like this that I could just run up to anytime!

Got to meet up with the super sweet Punam Bean for lunch at Maison. Lots of delish food & great conversation!

On one of the evenings we visited Momofuku Milk Bar (just the name alone sounds scrumptious)! They have the most unique ice cream flavors – I got Cereal Milk which literally tastes exactly like the milk that remains after you gobble up all your cornflakes. The taste was so spot on, I kept expecting to crunch on a cornflake any second! Scott tried the zucchini bread and said it was so authentic it was practically buttery!

Excited would have been a huge understatement. A beautiful spring wedding in the middle of New York City, a ceremony set under a canopy of twisty green wisteria, urban portraits around Central Park & Grand Central Station – I was practically bouncing off the walls the night before we flew out (I was also the most un-packed a person could possibly be, but tis the story of my life.)

I had an absolutely phenomenal time photographing Erika & Julian’s wedding in NYC! It had the bustling excitement of the city built in, but was also wonderfully intimate, a sweet collection of their closest family and friends. They chose to have the wedding in New York since it provided a central meeting point for Erika’s family/friends from the West Coast and Julian’s from the UK. Everyone flew in to meet together and celebrate their love.

Thank you Erika & Julian for inviting us on your cross-country celebration & treating us so kindly every step of the way, almost making us feel like we were guests! :) We had so much fun exploring the city with you & photographing your day!

Erika was a bit worried about the weather, but the day turned out to be beautiful! It actually rained right before everyone flew in and starting raining again the following Tuesday when we were all set to leave – the sun essentially came out just for their lovely wedding weekend :)

I LOVED the textural feel of the bouquets, such a whimsical mix of colors & varieties. All florals were created by Flowers by Richard:

The reception was held at the Beacon restaurant. The food was amaaazing and it had such a cozy yet modern vibe.

The adorable cake topper was handcrafted by Yumi, Erika’s maid-of-honor… she sweetly included their dog Shep and the likeness of all 3 of them was uncanny!

Loved their “International Candy Buffet” – lots of my favorite Japanese candies were included as well!

Just a sneak peek from the New York wedding we photographed last week…

I’ve been to NYC a couple times when I was younger, but for some reason on this trip especially, I found myself awestruck by all the fantastic greenery around the city. Gorgeous breezy trees even on the busiest streets & most urban areas, shady parks & plazas around every turn, and of course the stunning spectacle that is Central Park. I didn’t quite comprehend just how ginormous Central Park was peering at it on Google Maps, and completely thought oh, we can TOTALLY walk from one end to the other, and then of course was super glad they put the MET in the middle so crazy tourists can stop and rethink their stroll-the-length-of-Central-Park plans. I am still wrapping my head around just how much is going on in the park and how such a huge green oasis exists in the middle of the busiest city in the country. I SO so wish we had something like this in LA, so I could head over with a good book every day, to read on a bench or sunny lawn or shady nook, and still always have another lovely corner to explore.

This photo is shot in just a tiny little piece of the park – the sun-speckled, tree-lined walkway felt very “New York” to me :)
